If you can see your own car in the side view mirrors, you’re doing it wrong.

Seeing you car is nice for parking in tight spaces (obviously you don’t want to see as much as you do in this picture.)

I disagree. Seeing sexy shoulder lines makes me happy and I haven’t hit anyone in my blindspot yet.

The advantage is you don’t have a blind spot if your mirrors are set up right.

The mirrors on my wife’s Suv are adjusted the “right” way, but on my 944, they’re adjusted so I can see those sweet box-flared hips every time I look. It’s totally worth the slight visibility penalty.

You could also lean forward a few inches and use the mirror to see in the blind spot. Also, the view from the camera lens isn’t necessarily the same as from the driver’s eyes.

Why is the convex mirror on the outside edge? If anything, it should be on the inside edge so the maximum amount of coverage is available for the real mirror. I normally say you shouldn’t see your own car, but it looks like the shot was taken from near the b-pillar, so probably okay. Our Honda literally doesn’t even go far enough to show the full blind spot — it’s “perfectly centered” showing you the side of the car. Proof of idiocy in engineering.

Indeed, and with the Camaro it’s mandatory to see a bit of the car’s butt cheek in the mirror (at least in the right mirror). Else you might hit something with that booty. Hell, it even catches flys with it.
